Nurul's brownie

We have been baking recently. Such a therapy. Especially for me. I need a stress relieving outlet.

I finally made my fondant from scratch. Such a great achievement for me. The kids enjoyed watching me knead the fondant. They helped. But just a weeeeeee bit. Cos it was messy with all the powdered sugar all over the place. The fondant turned out great on the cake! But the chocolate cake was not edible. I had baked it with too much water.... very muddy looking. But the white fondant was perfect! Next time i'll post a picture...

Nurul started baking too... She did her very first brownies. From the egg craking to the mixing of batter to poring ready to bake. Mak topped it up with choc fudge for presentation. It tasted delicious!

I would love to call Aust home

This clip was aired when i was there to complete my degree some 10 years ago. It gave me the shivers when i heard the song. And the feeling still remains. I love the song. I love Australia. I'll be there again.

Singapore had a similar one done for one of the National Day song. Uncanny similarity! Copied? I dunno. Common? I also dunno. But it didn't make the cut for me. I love the Asutralia one better.

Australia 2006

I realised that since we went digital, I'd a hard time getting family photos for my kids' school work required the next day. When Nurul was born i would religiously develop rolls after rolls of film. Now with the ease od the CD or external drive, i just save photos i took and chuck them in the dry box. ahhahahahaha so lazy to print photos nowadays. Anyway, I either recycled what my kids used for previous year's art or quickly rush to the DIY photo kiosk to develop my prints. Well, that was what i did for Nurul's Malay teacher's request. I'd been coming home late these past few days so by the time i knew of it, it was like 10pm! Stripped off an old family Raya photo from my favourite frame for that. Now the frame is just nothing but frame!

Found some old photos... both my kids love to look at the times when they were still toddlers... These were taken when we visited Mimah in Melbourne and were in Gold Coast before that. They looked so cute, the kids!

My favourite Malay Laksa!

Of course, cooked my my mother... i did try cooking this before but didn't tun out as well as hers... i love it with crunchy cucumbers.

Ingredients:

* shredded deboned fish
* fish curry powder
* oil
* smashed stalks of lemongrass
* onions (blendered)
* coconut milk
* some water
* chilli paste
* fresh prawns, fishball/fishcake, toufu puff
* laksa leaves

To make chilli, fry chilli paste in oil.

Add onions and lemongrass to hot oil. Mix in chilli paste and followed by all ingredients except coconut nilk and seafood/toufu puff . When boiled, add laksa leaf and finally coconut milk. Add seafood and toufu puff when gravy has bubbled again.

Garnish with thinly shredded laksa leaf, chilli paste cooked in oil and crunchy cucumbers. Serve.

Rupanzel - a Tangled love story

Today is Riyan's 5th birthday. Brought the kdis to watch Rupanzel. Another great Disney pictures. Very funny story with good-looking animated chcaracters. The thief-turned-prince was good-looking too...

Nurul, of course, enjoyed the movie very, very much... cos its a princess-ey thing...

I love Disney. We all love Disney. Who doesn't? I love Tokyo Disney more.

Fika Cafe and Bistro

My second time at Fika with friends. Chose the Swedish cafe cos i love the grilled chicken and the ambience was great, apart from them having everything from IKEA. The first floor itself looked great with white washed carpentry. Very cosy. The second floor was more for large groups, open for reservations.

If you want to reserve a table you MUST call: +65 6396 9096

Opening hours:
11am-10pm (Sundays - Wednesdays)
11pm-11pm (Thursdays - Saturdays)

No.257 Beach Road / Arab Street, Singapore
(on the corner of Beach Road and Arab Street)

This time round it was with old friends who studied and were more like family when i was in Australia. I knew i had to do this gathering when i bumped into Connie and Khaizad at Endy's wedding. And so this was it. It was supposed to be more of us but one by one either forgot about it or had some other issues to deal with. Anyway, it was a great 2.5 hours of yakking and especially about movie concepts for Shafie...

Second breakfast

My second trial of western breakfast. Bought fresh blueberries from NTUC and blueberry jam. Used Betty Crocker's pancake mix. Everyone loved it! Nurul had 2 servings of 3 pancakes each! The jam was a great compliment to the pancake.
A quick snap of Pa's serving before it was gulped down.
What i used. St. Dalfour - Good jam with chunky berries inside. Betty Crocker - The best pancake mix i used so far. Very soft and easy to whisk.

Breakfast at Lin's

ok, this is the first of my series of meal attempts... or rather cooking experiment for Pa and my kids... not sure if Mak likes it cos it's nothing Asian... more to come... InsyaAllah...
All American breakfast for Pa. I insisted he ate the tomato too.

Served with grilled tomato, garlic bread and mushroom soup. Shucks! i burst the yolk!

Riyan wanted one just like Pa's. But he didn't eat the yolk. I thought his egg looked better.
