National Museum of Singapore

School kids nowadays really have it good. I don't remember the government giving students days off for exam paper marking. I only remembered having to drag my feet to school even after the exam period. Boy, those days were long gone and forgotten by the govt. They pay more attention to the 'needs' of both teachers and students now... so much so that i'm the one having a hard time here trying to apply which day is best to take leave when Nurul is having her school days off. ;p

Nurul had almost 1 week of school break from 19-22 Oct 2010 due to PSLE marking. I took leave on the last day to take the kids out. Planned to take at least 3 but it was so coincidental that i had to attend a course smack in the middle of the week!

Deliberated on a few places to go to. Science Centre was too far and it was too late as we were only able to go out after fetching Riyan from school.
I took the corporate pass to get FREE entrance into the National Museum of Singapore, which i think was such a no brainer cos noone checked or enforced the ticketing rule in the museum.

We went in freely except for the Special Exhibition which I had to pay $12 (shucks!) and the rest of them, free, senior citizen and kids.
The Speical Exhibition was about Pompeii... it was good...! Very educational.

Act cute!... memang cute...
We got in by the Fort Canning entrance... no one checked = corporate pass useless.

It's them! Both back and fore ground!

My *ahem!* 1/2 love of my life... the other half was taking a dump around the corner... heheheheh always, always...

The Special Exhibition. Didn't take too many photos here cos too engrossed in the exhibits. Very interesting...

These were moulds, made of resin, of actual corpse found buried in the volcanic ash. Many poses... it was very depressing to see and could actually feel how terrified they were. Especially the figure of the girl trying to protect herself from the volcanic ash. Reminded me of the Maya mummies the scientists found.

Some of the dieties and 'gods' the Roman looked up to and worshiped. I can only recognise Neptune. The one that is only 3/4 full.

This is the start of our Living Exhibits tour... all local exhibits. First stop was about local food. Going through this exhibit reminded me of the good ol' kampong days.

Riyan listening to a documentary about Chinese food... he danced to the song in it... hilarious! Then he forced me to listen to it.

I love the way they displayed the herbs and spices. Gradual colours in soft hues. Riyan was trying to smell one of the herbs.

Second stop: State souvenirs through the many generations of Presidents. Mak was trying to show Nurul the different Presidents, whom she couldn't care any lesser. She only recognised the man on the dollar notes... whom she said (when she was much youndger) was her Tok Man.

Third stop: Wayang exhibit. Too loud and scary for Nurul. This exhibit potrayed the locally made movies in the golden era. Much when P. Ramlee was regarded, and still is, one of the bes actors and directors.

We didn't make it for the last Living exhibit - Fashion exhibit. Not interested.
Picture above shows the skylight that really made the museum bright and airy.

OK, no points for guessing who are behind the Gladiator helmet souvenir from Pompeii, below. ;p
