Me + Nurul + Arab Street

It was a girls'- day-out yesterday. It was a REAL hot day! But I needed to get something for a friend so i brought Nurul to Arab Street. She has been there before but that day, she ventured a little more than just along the corridor of the silk and cloth merchants.

I brought her to the Sultan Mosque and to the fanciful, yet traditional, ethnic shops along the mosque's boulevard. Visiting the street along Sultan mosque is one of the rituals my family and I would do during the fasting month. The myriad of food would be beyond words! I would definitely go again this year and take a snapshot or two!
Along the way, we bumped into many enthusiastic photographers capturing every angle of the mosque as they could. A definite place to bring my foreign friends when they come to visit.

We stopped by Ambrosia and guess 'who' we met? The MUMMY! Nurul was freaked out initially. The staff were very friendly although we didn't buy anything from them. They joked with us about the mummy. Recommended dining place for a Mediterranean ambiance and a real Egyptian adventure. Ambrosia is a great place for lounge lizards. Real cosy and very, very Egypt. From the interior decoration to the staff. But of course, right? And not forgetting their arsenal... the shishas.

Now, now... this is something new for me... i didn't realise they have a backpackers' hostel in the heart of Arab Street. Good location, great cheap food surrounding it, what else could a budget traveller ask for? Check out Sleepy Sam's. It's been voted #02 hostel in Asia. Must recommend this place to my friends who are on a travel budget!

Finally, something nostalgic before we left... the Children's Little Museum. But Riyan wasn't there so i promised her we'd be there again another day with Pa and Riyan. The museum really brought back old, fond memories of good ol' kampung days. Yesssss.... my dear friends.... I grew up partially in Kaki Bukit kampung at my Nyai's. The Children Little Museum has a great collection of all the old, vintage toys! Tikam-tikam, five stones (the really traditional ones with flowery cloth and saga seeds), those plasticy bubbles you'd blow using a litte straw, old telephones... you name it, they have them all! I was so tempted to just grab all of them and play them for old sake.

I'll be back with a vengeance! I have already bookmarked the place for my next visit! The info for the museum for those interested:
